The Degree Program in Computer Science, University of Tsukuba, offers a program named
International Program for Promoting AI Social Implementation (AISIP)
for AY2025-AY2027, which aims to foster technical experts who have the ability to develop and apply cutting-edge AI technologies for solving real issues in our society. In addition to the fundamental knowledge and skills about AI and information technolgies, students are also encouraged to study domain knowledge and ethics toward using AI for specific application fields.
To explore application research fields, research and education program will be offered in collaboration with the Japan-U.S. AI Partnership Research Solicitation (Cross-Pacific AI Initiative: X-PAI) and the Data Science Expert Program (DSEP) at University of Tsukuba.

This program is a sucessor of International Program for Human-centered AI Society (HCAIP) (AY2022-AY2024).
MEXT Scholarship ¢ù
The AISIP offers a special scholarship for international students.
Scholarship details:
- The support offered by this scholarship is the same as the Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship.

- Applicants need to satisfy the eligibility requirements specified in the guidelines.

Application procedure ¢ù
1. Find your prospective academic supervisor
- The first step toward the application to the program is finding a prospective academic supervisor in our degree program.
- You can find a list of faculties and their research fields here: List of faculties
- You need to contact a prospective supervisor and obtain their consent for your application to the MEXT scholarship offered by AISIP.
2. Apply for the application prescreening
Deadline for electronic file submission: Aug. 22, 2025 3:00 PM (JST)
- All the applicants need to pass the prescreening before taking the entrance exam.
- Please refer to the AISIP Application Guidelines for the application documents.
- The results of the prescreening will be notified in late September.
3. Apply for the eligibility screening (if required)
Deadline for electronic file submission: Aug. 29, 2025 3:00 PM (JST)
- Candidates who wish to apply for the master's degree without a bachelor's degree or apply to the doctoral degree without a master's degree must pass an eligibility screening to confirm academic qualifications equivalent to or higher than the relevant degree.

4. Submit the application for the entrance examination
Deadline for electronic file submission: Sep. 26, 2025 3:00 PM (JST)
Deadline for original document submission: Oct. 10, 2025 5:00 PM (JST)
- The applicants who passed the prescreening are notified to submit the application for the entrance examination.
- Please refer to the AISIP Application Guidelines for the application documents.
5. Take the entrance examination
- The prospective applicants will be invited to take an online examination, which will be held between Oct. 20 and 24, 2025.
- Screening and selection are made on the basis of the submitted application documents and the oral examination.
- The examination results will be notified individually in mid-to late November.
6. Receive the official notification from MEXT
- After the exam, the accepted students are recommended to MEXT as scholarship candidates.
- The official notification from MEXT will be announced individually in early March.
- Q: What is the oral examination like?
A: The content of our oral examination is similar to that of the regular examinations for master's and doctoral programs in Computer Science, except that we do not offer assessments on basic knowledge (e.g., mathematics, programming, etc.) for the master's program. The detail will be announced to the applicants who pass the prescreening.
