The entrance examination for Program in Computer Science is broadly divided into Master's Program and Doctoral Program. The following information is a summary of the entrance examination, but you should also obtain and check the official application form.

For Applicants to Master's Course (Enrollment in April 2025)

Dates

We provide three entrance examinations for applicants to Master's Course (Enrollment in April 2025). These are July Selection Process based on recommendation, August Selection Process, and January-February Selection Process. We also hold two entrance examinations in August Selection Process and January-February Selection Process for admissions of working students.

Please note that admissions for Master's Course (Enrollment in 2024) have already finished, and no entrance examinations will be provided for Master's Course (Enrollment in 2024).

Additional Information

Oral examination for regular applicants to the master's course

Oral examination consists of two parts, which are general interview (your current research works, readiness for post-entry research, and purpose of enrollment) and assessment on basic knowledge. The following is the explanation about the implementation of the assessment on basic knowledge.
  • Examinees are asked to answer questions from all four areas. The areas of the assessment and the scope of questions for each area are as follows:
  •   Area
    Analysis Function and its limit, Limit of a sequence, Infinite series, Analysis in one variable, Analysis in several variables (partial derivative, multiple integral).
    Linear Algebra Matrix, Determinant, Vector space, Linear mapping, Kernel and image, Inner product spaces, Eigenvalues, Eigenvectors, Matrix diagonalization.
    Discrete Mathematics and Logic Set, Propositional Logic, Function (surjection, injection, image, composite function, etc.), Relation, Boolean Algebra, Karnaugh Map, Combinatorial Circuit.
    Fundamentals of Programming Control Structure (Conditional Branch, Loop, etc.), Data Type (Character String, Array, etc.), Data Structure (Stack, Queue, List, Tree, etc.), Function, Recursive Call, C language, Python.
  • Assessment on basic knowledge will be administered according to the following procedure:
  •   Time Outline
    1. Language selection - Select your preferred language (English or Japanese) for this assessment (*1)
    2. Posting problems 15 min. Solve all questions from the four posted problems (*2)
    3. Answering 2 min. Answer orally your answers. (*3)
  • (*1) The problems are provided in either Japanese or English. After selecting the problems, it is not allowed to change the language.
  • (*2) Examinees may use notepapers and writing instruments for calculating their answers.
  • (*3) Examinees will be required to answer the questions in an oral manner. Notepapers may not be presented as a substitute for oral answers.

We provide three examinations for applicants to Doctoral Course in July (Enrollment in October 2024), August (Enrollment in April 2025), and January-February (Enrollment in April or October 2025). We also perform entrance examinations for admissions of working students.

Additional information

The oral exam will be held in online. In the oral exam of Doctoral Course, in addition to making questions on applicant's major research subjects, motivation and preference, and so on, we ask each applicant to make a 10 minutes presentation on his/her past research and future research plan. It is recommended to use PowerPoint and so on for presentation.

Fast Track Doctoral Program

Based on our experience in working student education, we have started a new fast track program "Fast track doctoral program for working students", invoking the existing regulations for "fast track schemes".
